The rise of the Sneaker

Over the past couple of years, we’ve all seen this ridiculous uprising of the sneaker culture. People were swapping out their fancy shoes for…Well, fancy sneakers quite frankly. From Stan Smiths to Saint Laurent premium leather sneakers, people were going mad for this stuff. It suddenly went from ‘You’re not going to get into that club with sneakers on’ to ‘Girl put your Balenciaga sneakers on we’re going clubbing’ and once Kanye West saw this uprising he knew he had to have a piece of the cake by revolutionising sneakers worldwide. By collaborating with adidas, Kanye knew it was about to blow up no matter how unoriginal the design was or how crap the materials used were for this product. It didn’t matter because as soon as you brand them YEEZYS, they’re about to sell out real quick.

I definitely can’t deny being sucked into this culture myself recently, as I was one of those girls who was terrified to even buy converse because I thought I looked awkward in casual sneakers. I remember telling my friends ‘Just kill me if I become that girl who swaps out her nice shoes for converse’. But it’s practicality that is so appealing, it’s no longer the Louboutins of the world that are grabbing our attention, we get it they have red soles, cool move on. Moving to London from Dubai, I knew a lot of walking was to be done, getting off and on the tube, I couldn’t be wearing ballet flats or ankle boots every single day, let’s not forget the rain, too. So I did it, I delved into the sneaker realm with my first pair of plain white converse. And from there, it’s history.

Here they are, clearly not as white as I purchased them; I like that used look though, crisp white shoes are great too but I like them to look worn.

Shortly after this, I started lusting after Nike sneakers, Air Force, Thea’s, I was on asos daily scoping it out. Alas I never purchased any Nike’s, even after joining SIVVI there were these gorgeous performance trainers in a light blue that I wanted but couldn’t justify as I had perfectly good adidas X Stella McCartney trainers at home. But then…adidas Originals dropped at SIVVI and suddenly I could justify it all and I was obsessing over the holographic trend, so I made a purchase on asos for the holographic superstars and then made a purchase on SIVVI for the black croc printed Stan Smiths… I’ve never looked back since. The Superstar’s being the comfier out of the two, I don’t know where I’d be without them! The black ones were uncomfortable for the first few times but then were absolutely fine.

Lastly, my most recent purchase of sneakers was a bit OTT for most, including myself. Like I said I used to be that girl who mocked people for wearing expensive sneakers. But here I was scouring By Symphony online and found these Saint Laurent sneakers that I just died. Excitement and mad heart palpitations happened as I saw they went on 60% sale… and I placed my order for the 37.5 even though I’m size 38. Needless to say we all know where my pay went that month but it was totally worth it, real soft leather, perfect shape, comfort, sturdy and chic AF. The quality is unreal compared to anything else I own and I loved the simplicity, so here it is BRB whilst I fall in love with it again:

Last but not least gotta give my adidas X Stella McCartney trainers a shout out for being there to support me when I can’t support myself on the treadmill. Here they are, the most comfortable training shoes I know of and of course, the prettiest.

A couple of brands I’ve had my eye on are Axel Arigato for some BOMB sneakers and I’m totally obsessed with the FENTY x Puma creepers, they are to die for. I wonder which sneakers I’ll go for next – one thing I know for sure is, I went from a hater to a full on supporter of sneakers!

Thanks for reading and please leave a like or a comment, perhaps a suggestion for the next post! I would really appreciate it, and as always I’ll continue shawing you the way.
